Sweetman, Caroline, Edited by |
| Uitgever(s) |
Oxford, Oxfam, 2005, 110 p., ISBN 0-85598-533-x |
| Samenvatting |
This collection af articles examines the impact of armed conflicts on women, men, and gender relations. Gender stereotypes of conflict depict women and children as powerless victims, while men are presented either as saviours of the weak and powerless, or as agents of violence and destruction. Reality is more complex. Women, girls and boys also wage war as soldiers, often against their will. Atrocities committed against them give rise to desperate physical, mental and material need, which reconstruction and peace initiatives must recognise and adress. |

| Samenvatting |
Globalisation and trade have drawn millions of women in developing countries into paid work. Their labour is rising global prosperity and to the profits of some of the world's most powerful companies. But women workers are systematically being denied their fair share of the benefits from their labour. Failure to adress this injustice wil perpetuate a model of globalisation that is failing poor people. |

| Samenvatting |
This report lays out the recommendations of the UN Millennium Project Task Force on Education and Gender Equality. The Task Force recommends that countries now 'off track' expand access, overcome demand-side barriers, and implement institutional changes to make the education system more resoponsive and accountable. As part of a compact with low-income countries working toward the goal of 100 percent primary school completion by 2015, donors and the international community must fulfill commitments already made under the Fast Track Initiative and commit to still greater levels of support. |
