The European aid-watching is an initiative that contributes to the Global Call to Action against Poverty mobilisation. European Governements provide over half the world's development aid. In 2002 the European Governements set themselves a collective target of providing 0,39% of their gross national income (GNI) for Offical Development Assistance (ODA) by 2006 and individual minimum targets for each country of 0,33% of ODA/GNI by 2006. New official figures from the OECD and European commission show that European Member States are fulfulling their promises. But current aid reporting rules set by the OECD allows European Governements to regularly include spending on debt relief as aid and to count spending on refugees and foreign students in their own countries as ODA. This must changed immediatly in order to prevent Governements from misleading inflating aid figures... |
