*Else Marie Pedersen from RVA and Merijn Ryckebusch, a Belgian alumni are able to meet you in Brussels. Wednesday April 11th at the Velvet Cafe, close to the Metro Saint Catherine stop.

Bless' and love as we say here in St. Vincent*

Half of the people on this earth belong to the ranks of the poor. Fot them every day is a struggle to find water, food and shelter, get a job, send one’s children to school and avoid preventable, yet often fatal diseases. Global warming and climate change is running its course, with catastrophic consequences for the future of humankind and our planet, triggered by man’s burning of fossil fuels and the resulting release of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Natural resources are being exploited and stretched to their limits, species are disappearing at a never before seen rate in modern history.

By educating people from St. Vincent and the rest of the world, Richmond Vale Academy aims to build the capacity, knowledge and confidence in its students. By achieving personal growth and development, future leaders of St. Vincent and of the world will take action for a more just and more sustainable world. The objective is to bring youth from all over to meet another part of the world which is devastated by this climate crisis. Fully aware that we all must do something to help and support people who are off worse than ourselves.

Richmond Vale Academy (RVA) is teaches how to participate towards building a that sustainable future. At RVA you have the chance to learn about permaculture farming techniques, living and sharing life in a group, learning to teach and teaching to learn, setting up infrastructure, working with people that have different backgrounds, organising conferences, open days and setting up projects. Essential in this education is the hands on approach. This is where the team and the individual show they have the willpower to make a change for the betterment of the Vincentian people.

Richmond Vale Academy has developed two Climate Change Activist courses: a one month programme and a six months programme. Both are organised several times a year.

The six months programme structure for March / July / November.

Period 1 - two weeks: Gaia warns you
Period 2 - two weeks: Digging deeper
Period 3 - one month: Making RVA Climate Compliant
Period 4 - two months: Making St. Vincent Climate Compliant
Period 5-8 - two months: Larger Actions, Follow up and Evaluation

For more detailed information on the different programmes, other courses and their cost, visit A more in depth view on RVA’s vision, goals and methods is assembled in a new book: Ready for Climate Change, which is conveniently published online.

While doing the course, students live on the campus where accommodation, meals (vegan/vegetarian/meat), activities and more are shared with the staff creating a community atmosphere.
